The Rural LAB.
The LAB is a playground for research by design, reflection, experiment and cross-creation with makers and thinkers. A place for kindred spirits, who don’t believe in “it can’t be done”. Here the aim is to connect the LAB’s expertise, with the craft of the local making industry.
The LAB is about looking forward and imagining a better future. How can, for example, bio-based materials, biomimicry and new making methods or collective housing models support a sustainable transition? Will new product-service or business models speed up this transition, in times of sharing, when owning becomes utilizing? How will the tech, AI or robotic r-evolution influence our built and natural environment?
What is possible? What is desirable, as in; ethically or morally … because as global citizens, just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.
Through design- or systems thinking and cross-creation, the LAB explores new strategies for an inclusive transition. It develops ideas into tangible concepts and products, inviting the local making industry to co-create, together.
So in a way, the LAB is the humus, or nutritious soil, where creativity can bloom through reciprocity and co-evolution.
Het LAB is een speelruimte voor ontwerpend onderzoek, reflectie, experiment en kruisbestuiving, samen met makers en denkers. Een plek voor gelijkgestemden, die niet geloven in ‘dat kan niet’. Hier verbinden we de expertise van het LAB met het vakmanschap van lokale makers.
Het LAB gaat over vooruit kijken en zich een betere toekomst verbeelden. Hoe kunnen bv., biobased materialen, biomimicry en nieuwe maakmethodes of collectieve woonmodellen een duurzame transitie ondersteunen? Kunnen nieuwe product-service en businessmodellen deze transitie versnellen, in een deeleconomie, waarin bezitten, benutten wordt? Hoe zal de tech, AI- en robotica r-evolutie onze gebouwde én natuurlijke omgeving beïnvloeden?
Wat is mogelijk? En wat is wenselijk; ethisch of moreel … Want ‘gewoon, omdat het kan’, betekent niet dat we iets ook moeten doen.
Door design thinking oftewel systeemdenken verkent het LAB nieuwe strategieën voor een inclusieve transitie, waarin iedereen mee kan. Hier worden ideeën omgezet in tastbare concepten en producten, door co-creatie met de lokale maakindustrie.
In die zin is het LAB de humus of voedzame bodem waarin onze verbeeldingskracht tot bloei komt, door wederkerigheid en co-evolutie.
